Ezenwo Onyewuchi, the lawmaker representing Imo East in the Senate has decamped from the Labour Party, LP, to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Senate President, Godswill Akpabio read his defection letter during plenary today July 23.

Imo state governor and chairman of the Progressives Governors Forum (PGF), Hope Uzodinma, was in the chamber when the letter was read.

In his letter, Onyewuchi said that he has resigned from the Labour Party, citing the unsolvable crisis in his former party. He also said that his defection is in line with the constitution.

He also noted that his defection was to contribute to the development initiatives of President Tinubu.

Shortly after Onyewuchi was ushered to take his seat at the Majority party section of the Senate Chambers, he was also welcomed by APC lawmakers.

The implication of the lawmaker’s defection is that all three Senators representing Imo are now members of the APC, to which the governor also belong.

The other Senators are Osita Izunaso (Imo West) and Patrick Ndubueze (Imo North).
