The Nigerian Senate has passed the proposed N70,000 minimum wage bill on Tuesday.
The bill was passed in an hour on Tuesday, completing the three required readings.
President Bola Tinubu had sent the wage bill to the national assembly for legislation increasing the national minimum wage from N30,000 to N70,000.
The bill was also sent to the House of Representatives, proposing a new national minimum wage of ₦70,000 for Nigerian workers.
The agreement marks a significant milestone in the ongoing negotiations between the government and labour unions after months of unsuccessful talks, the President’s intervention led to a breakthrough.
