Covering Of Number Plates Punishable Under The Law – Lagos Police PRO, Benjamin Hundeyin, Warns Nigerians

In a post shared on X, Hundeyin stated that illegal covering of vehicle plate numbers attracts fines or prison terms when a person is convicted.

SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesperson of the Lagos State Police Command, has warned Nigerians to desist from using covered vehicle number plates without proper authorization from the Nigeria Road Safety Corps, FRSC.

He stated that ignorance is not an excuse under the law.

Nigerians cover their plates number for security reasons while some others see it as a status symbol.

In a post shared on X, Hundeyin stated that illegal covering of vehicle plate numbers attracts fines or prison terms when a person is convicted.

He wrote;

‘’Covering of number plates is against the provisions of the National Road Traffic Regulations. When convicted, punishment ranges from fines to prison terms.

Ignorance is not an excuse under the law. Above all, forewarned is forearmed!''
