The move, which is gaining support in the north and other parts of the country, is aimed at drawing the attention of government at all levels to the plight of the citizens.

Security agencies in Jigawa State have launched a ‘show of force’ in preparation for the upcoming nationwide protest.

Daily Post reports that some Nigerian youths have announced plans to stage nationwide protests from August 1 to August 10, 2024, to show dissatisfaction over the current situation of the country.

The move, which is gaining support in the north and other parts of the country, is aimed at drawing the attention of government at all levels to the plight of the citizens.

Some the demands tabled by the protesters include end of fuel subsidy and reverse fuel pump price to below N300 per litter, bring tertiary education fees back to their previous rates, restore electricity tariff to affordable levels for the public, return import duties to their previous rates, publicly disclose and reduce the salaries and allowances of senators and members of the House of Representatives, and reform the EFCC.

Findings revealed that the Nigeria Police Force is planing to halt the planned protest.

Spokesman of the Jigawa State Police Command, DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam in a statement made available to DAILY POST, said all security agencies in Jigawa State Command will embark on an ‘Operation Show of Force’ from Friday.

According to him, “The Operation Show of Force is to demonstrate that we are prepared to display, carry out, and fulfill our primary responsibilities as outlined in all Federal Republic of Nigeria laws.

“This to instill faith and confidence on the general public and law abiding citizens to know that security agencies are always with them 24/7.

“We also wanted to convey a message to those who might be considering causing civil disturbances within the state.*

Daily Post observed convoys of heavily armed security operatives moving round the streets of Dutse, the state capital.

The security agencies include the Police, army, NSCDC, Customs, Vigilante and Immigration Service.
