Sowore said the judgement would remain ineffective if state governors continue to control the state electoral machinery.

The African Action Congress, AAC, presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Omoyele Sowore has stated that autonomy granted to the LGs will not make any difference.

Recall that the Supreme Court recently granted autonomy to local governments.

Sowore said the judgement would remain ineffective if state governors continue to control the state electoral machinery.

He noted that if state governors are allowed to continue rigging local government elections, thereby installing their minions, the Supreme Court judgment would remain ineffective.

Posting on X, Sowore wrote: “As long as Nigerian state governors control the State Electoral machinery, ruthlessly rig Local Government elections and install their minions (minimes) in the LGAs, the Supreme Court ruling would remain ineffective!

“And at any rate, any time @officialABAT is seen around control of funds, run, please run!”

Recall that the Supreme Court had barred state governors from having access to allocations meant for local governments.

The apex court ruled that it was unconstitutional for state governors to control the funds meant for local governments.
