Kate Henshaw
Popular Nigerian actress, Kate Henshaw has reacted to the recent changes to the electricity pricing system, in the country.
She expressed displeasure, calling it unfair and ‘daylight robbery’.
She stated that everyone should be granted access to electricity as long as they can pay for consumption.
On July 9, 2024, Henshaw posted on X (formerly Twitter), saying: “Nowhere, absolutely nowhere in the world, is there this purported ‘banding’ of electricity supply. Give everyone access to electricity and let them pay fairly for their consumption. Yet, every 2 to 3 months, there is an increase in tariff!! Daylight robbery in darkness.”
Kate was responding to comments by journalist Olive Modi about Nigeria’s unreliable power supply.
Modi explained that in April 2024, electricity companies divided customers into bands from A to E, with Band A getting the most power but also paying the most. Some people complain about paying high prices without getting reliable power.
Modi added, “Living in Nigeria feels like some sort of toxic form of relationship where you constantly expect something to go wrong.”
