New Islamic Year Celebration: Kebbi Declares Public Holiday

The announcement was made by the State Commissioner for Establishment, Auwal Dogondaji, in a statement released to the press in Birnin Kebbi on Friday.

Gov Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has declared public holiday on Monday, July 8, to mark the beginning of the new Islamic calendar, lst muharram 1446AH.

Alhaji Auwal Manu-Dogondaji, the state Commissioner for Establishment, disclosed this in a statement in Birnin Kebbi on Friday, July 5.

He explained that the 1st of Muharram (the Islamic New Year) is on a Sunday, July 7, so the government decided to shift the public holiday to Monday.

Manu-Dogondaji congratulated the Muslim Ummah on the advent of the new Islamic calendar, urging the Muslims to sustain fervent prayers for peace, security, and prosperity of Kebbi and the entire nation.
