Benue State Woman Sentenced To 7 years Imprisonment For Attempted S3x Trafficking

The 31-year-old was arraigned by the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) on July 2, 2024, and convicted the same day for conspiracy to commit an offence of human trafficking for s3xual exploitation.

A Benue State woman, Joy Shipinen Tyona, has been handed a seven-year jail term for human trafficking.

The 31-year-old was arraigned by the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) on July 2, 2024, and convicted the same day for conspiracy to commit an offence of human trafficking for s3xual exploitation.
 
The agency disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, adding that 45% of human traffickers are female.
 
β€œOn July 2nd 2024, Joy Shipinen Tyona, a 31-year-old woman plead guilty to a three counts charge for organizing and facilitating illegal foreign travel for s3xual exploitation,” the statement read.
 
"She was convicted on all counts and sentenced to 7 years Imprisonment with no option of fine
 
β€œ45% of human traffickers are females, dispelling the myth that it is a male-dominated crime. Justice is served.”
