The Mavin in-house producer stated that, despite being the son of legendary musician, Sir Victor Uwaifo, he didn’t have an easy ride to the top.
Andrew Vibez, the Grammy-nominated Nigerian record producer, has spoken about his journey in music, revealing that he used to charge as little as N500 as a production fee during his days as a struggling producer.
The Mavin in-house producer stated that, despite being the son of legendary musician, Sir Victor Uwaifo, he didn’t have an easy ride to the top.
Vibez, featured in the third episode of the ‘Made By Us’ docuseries, said: “When I started music; producing for people, I started by charging N500.
“I had my expectations when I was starting out. My dad is not the kind of person who would hold your hand and say, this is who you should know. In fact, he never introduced me to anybody.”
The producer said he got a career breakthrough after he met Don Jazzy, who later signed him to Mavin Records.
Andre Vibez is the producer behind some global Afrobeats hits like Rema and Selena Gomez’s ‘Calm Down’, Ayra Starr’s ‘Rush’ and others.
He earned a Grammy nomination for producing ‘Rush’ by Ayra Starr, which was nominated for Best African Music Performance at the 2024 Grammys.
