He was alleged to be using the uniform and rank of SP to carry out illegal activities in Calabar, the Cross River State capital.

Buba Adamu, a police corporal transferred from Cross River State Command to Kaduna State Police Command in 2015, refused to report and instead promoted himself to the rank of superintendent.

He was alleged to be using the uniform and rank of SP to carry out illegal activities in Calabar, the Cross River State capital.

The suspect has been operating as a “Mobile Police Officer” without reporting to a specific police command since 2015.

The state police command effected his arrest and has been in detention.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Irene Ugbo, confirmed Adamu’s detention.

“It is true that the said officer was transferred from Cross River to Kaduna State in 2015, and no one knew he didn’t report at his new station ever since.

“There are allegations that he has been carrying out criminal activities around Bacoco, Nassarawa area of Calabar. All these will be investigated with a view to prosecuting him.”

Findings confirmed that Adamu has since been drawing his monthly salary, even though he never reported at his new station.

Concerned members of the Nassarawa community, a Hausa/Fulani settlement in Calabar tipped off the police about Adamu’s illegal activities in their neighbourhood.

They caution the police not to release Adamu despite pressure because their lives would be at risk.
