Shehu during an interview on Arise TV on Friday night said Kaduna State had come to a standstill because of the recklessness of the El-Rufai’s administration.
Shehu Sani, a former federal lawmaker, has alleged that the governance under former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, ranks among the most corrupt in the state's history.
Shehu during an interview on Arise TV on Friday night said Kaduna State had come to a standstill because of the recklessness of the El-Rufai’s administration.
He also said he received threats to his life and attacks for calling for accountability and transparency in Kaduna State's finance when El-Rufai was in office.
“I was a lone voice in calling for transparency and accountability in the way the finances of Kaduna state government were mismanaged from 2015 to 2023. In that process I received a lot of attacks, persecution and threats to my own life but I remained consistent and I refused to be silent because I know very well that government is one of the most corrupt in the history of our dear state Kaduna.
“Today is the day of reckoning, Kaduna State has been financially strangulated, almost everything has come to a standstill because of the recklessness of El-Rufai’s administration from 2015-2023”.
Speaking further, he said the Kaduna State government led by Uba Sani must move ahead to recover the looted money.
“Even if it is witch hunt we will witch hunt and get our money back, that the situation, all those people who contributed in ruining the economy of Kaduna state have to come and answer and I must send this clear warning to the state House of Assembly and to the government of Kaduna state, if they don’t move to recover our money we will start an open opposition against it because as far as I am concerned I will not sit and watch my state being wreaked and then some people sit down somewhere and resolve to issue statement”.
The Kaduna State House of Assembly had recommended the probe of former governor of the state, Nasir El-Rufai for abuse of office and money laundering.
The recommendation was given by the ad hoc committee set up by the House of Assembly mandating the investigation of all finances, loans and contracts awarded under Nasir El-Rufai’s government.
The chairman of the ad hoc committee, Henry Zacharia, had presented the report during plenary on Wednesday, stating that the majority of the loans obtained during El-Rufai's administration were not used for the purpose for which they were obtained, and that in some cases, due process was not followed in obtaining the loans.
Receiving the report, Yusuf Liman, Speaker of the Kaduna House of Assembly, stated that the El-Rufai administration syphoned a total of N423billion, leaving the state with massive liabilities.
