Also confirming the arrest, the Officer-in-Charge of the Surveillance Unit of the board, Aliyu Usman, said operatives of the unit picked up G-Fresh at his residence located in the Badawa area on Sunday around 1pm.
Popular TikToker, Abubakar Ibrahim, famously known as Alameen G-Fresh, has been arrested by the Kano State Hisbah Board over allegations of ‘’promoting immoral behaviour'' on social media.
The Director General of the board, Mallam Abba Sufi, who confirmed the arrest in a statement on Sunday, June 2, 2024, said the board had previously issued several warnings to G-Fresh to desist from posting content deemed immoral.
Despite these warnings and multiple counselling sessions which were ‘’aimed at guiding him towards acceptable social media behaviour,'' the board said G-Fresh continued to publish the contentious material.
"We have called him for counselling several times. We advised him to stop posting immoral content online, but he didn’t listen,” Sufi stated.
Also confirming the arrest, the Officer-in-Charge of the Surveillance Unit of the board, Aliyu Usman, said operatives of the unit picked up G-Fresh at his residence located in the Badawa area on Sunday around 1pm.
“He has been hiding for long and we have been extending invitations to him. I personally have called him on the phone several times, telling him to come for counselling based on the instructions of the Commandant General but he refused,” he said.
“We have no option but to go after him and arrest him. He is now in our custody after we got him today (Sunday) in his room and he is undergoing investigation.”
Usman added that the Tiktoker was arrested for making inappropriate remarks, reciting Fatiha, the first chapter of the Holy Quran, improperly during the last Sallah celebration.
Recall that the Hisbah Board in March 2024, launched a manhunt for G-Fresh and five other well-known Kano TikTokers accused of sharing explicit content online.
The individuals targeted included Murja Ibrahim Kunya, Abubakar Ibrahim (G-Fresh), Sadiya Haruna, Ashiru Idris (Maiwushirya), Ummee Shakira, and Hassan Makeup.
The board asserted that the actions of these social media influencers violated its extant laws and regulations.
The Hisbah Board has announced that G-Fresh will be arraigned in court on Monday, June 3rd, 2024.
