Anambra Commissioner Of Police Orders Investigation Into Lifeless Body Of Baby Found In A Bag In Awka

The body has been recovered and the Police are currently working with some eyewitness information at the scene for possible arrest of the perpetrator.

The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam has called for a thorough probe into the corpse of a baby found in a sack at a refuse dump along Ifite Road, Awka, the state’s capital on Sunday, June 2.

Preliminary investigations revealed the child, probably a day old, was abandoned by a yet to be identified woman suspected to be the mother.

Meanwhile, the body has been recovered and the Police are currently working with some eyewitness information at the scene for possible arrest of the perpetrator.

Confirming the development to newsmen, the spokesperson of the command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the CP decries moral decay in Society and describes the act as ungodly, barbaric, and inhuman.

He also urges Parents/Guardians to pay greater attention to children/wards and call on anyone with useful information that can aid the investigation to come forward to the Police Command headquarters in this regard.

He added that anyone that has an intel into the incident should call the Command Control Room number at 07039194332 or the PPRO at 08039334002 and that confidentiality of information is guaranteed.
