The anti-graft agency said the suspects were arrested during early morning sting operations at two different locations in the state.

On Thursday, the Uyo Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) apprehended 40 individuals suspected of internet fraud in Akwa Ibom State.

The EFCC disclosed this in a statement and pictures shared on X.com on Friday.

The anti-graft agency said the suspects were arrested during early morning sting operations at two different locations in the state.

The statement partly read, “Twenty-one of the all-male suspects were arrested in Eket, while the remaining 19 were picked up in Ikot Ekpene.

“Items recovered from the suspects upon arrest include one Toyota SUV XLE, nine laptop computers, 64 smartphones, one internet router, and a smartwatch.”

The EFCC added that the suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.

PUNCH Online reported earlier in May that the Enugu Zonal Command of the EFCC arrested 23 suspected internet fraudsters in the state.

In March, the EFCC arrested 45 and 74 suspected internet fraudsters in Lagos and Ogun States, respectively.
