Gridlock As Truck, Luxurious Bus And Van Collide On Lagos-Ibadan Expressway

The accident which occurred in the wee hours of Thursday, May 23, 2024, involved a forty-feet containerized truck, a luxurious bus belonging to Sopuru Chukwu Motors, a computer hiace bus and a van.

Several persons sustained varying injuries in multiple accidents involving four vehicles along Kara Bridge axis of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
 
The accident which occurred in the wee hours of Thursday, May 23, 2024, involved a forty feet containerized truck, a luxurious bus belonging to Sopuru Chukwu Motors, a computer hiace bus and a van.
 
Permanent Secretary of Lagos Emergency Management Agency LASEMA, Dr. Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, who confirmed the incident said that emergency responders rescued the injured victims and moved them to the Accident and Emergency Center.
 
The incident led to massive gridlock, with travellers and passengers coming from Berger inward to Mowe-Ibafo, trapped for several hours.
 
 Oke-Osanyintolu however, said that all the vehicles and trucks were effectively recovered off the road and the road was restored to normalcy.
 
“The Agency received a distress call via the state emergency toll free line 767/112 regarding a multiple road accident at Kara Bridge inward Arepo,” he said.
 
"Upon arrival of the Agency's Response Team to the scene of incident, it was discovered that there was a multiple road accident involving a forty feet containerized truck, a luxurious bus with registration number KPP 921 ZW belonging to Sopuru Chukwu Motors, a computer hiace bus and a van used for commercial purposes
 
"The emergency responders due to their prompt response were able to rescue the injured victims to the Accident and Emergency Center.
 
“In its bid to ease traffic congestion that had extended to Secretariat Bus-stop, the Agency's Response Team swiftly utilized the Super-Metro provided by FRSC for recovery exercise, all vehicles and trucks were effectively recovered off the road and the road was restored to normalcy.”

 
He added that the emergency responders who attended to the crashes included officers of LASEMA Response Team, LASTMA Officials, Road Safety Corps, NEMA and Nigeria Police Force officers.
