The convicts, who were on Tuesday arraigned before M. T. Olayemi Osikoya, were convicted on two counts after pleading guilty to the offences.

Two persons, Hussain Waziri and Mustapha Aliyu have been sentenced to one-year imprisonment by the Magistrate Court sitting in Ilaro, Ogun State, over the theft of armoured cables belonging to Dangote Cement Company in Ibese.

The convicts, Waziri, 36, and Aliyu, 33, who were on Tuesday arraigned before M. T. Olayemi Osikoya, were convicted on two counts after pleading guilty to the offences.

They were arrested at the Dangote Cement Factory Outpost station during routine beat patrol operations undertaken by operatives of the Ogun State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC.

The serial cable thieves allegedly conspired, jumped over the perimeter fence and accessed the cable yard within the power plant.

In an attempt to escape arrest, the convicts violently engaged the security personnel with dangerous tools but were eventually arrested and charged in court.

Reacting to the arrest and the conviction secured at the court, the NSCDC Ogun State commandant, David Ojelabi, reiterated the command’s commitment to the protection of critical infrastructure and ensuring that crime is stamped out of Ogun State and Nigeria at large.
