EFCC Arrests Five Forex Speculators In Aba

Recovered currencies included 23,000 Won (Korean), 52 Yuan (Chinese), $6,500 Nippon Ginko (Japanese), 40 notes of Dalawampung Piso (Philippine), 20 Gambian Dalasis, 20 Swazi Lilangeni, and N382,000 (Naira).

Five suspected forex speculators were on Friday, arrested by the Uyo Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, at the Ama-Hausa mosque on Hospital Road, Aba, Abia State.

The Commission disclosed this in a statement on Monday.

The suspects, Hassan Umaru, Haruna Umar Badamasi Abdullahi, Auwal Muhammed, and Kasimu Muhammed were caught with various currencies at the time of their arrest.

Recovered currencies included 23,000 Won (Korean), 52 Yuan (Chinese), $6,500 Nippon Ginko (Japanese), 40 notes of Dalawampung Piso (Philippine), 20 Gambian Dalasis, 20 Swazi Lilangeni, and N382,000 (Naira).

Additionally, seven mobile phones, a power bank, an air pod, and an ATM card were seized.

The arrests followed weeks of surveillance and intelligence gathering.

The suspects will be charged in court once investigations are complete.
