A 29-year-old thuggery gang leader, Umar Shehu a.k.a Soja has been arrested by the Niger State Police Command.
Spokesperson of the command, SP Wasiu Abiodun, who disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, said the suspect is the leader of a 10-man gang attacking communities in the state.
“Police operatives attached to the Intelligence Department arrested a gang leader on 7/05/2024 at about 1230hrs, named Umar Shehu a.k.a Soja 29yrs of St. Mary area of Kpakungu,” the statement read.
"He confessed to being a gang leader of a 10-man notorious thuggery group attacking neighbouring communities, vigilante and security men, snatching handsets and attacking members of the public.
“The suspect is under investigation with a view to apprehend members of his gang and ensure diligent prosecution."
