A restaurant owner, Mr Ugwu Ofor (aka Ofor Onye Ofe Olubu) has been reportedly shot dead by a member of the Neighborhood Watch in Igboeze North Local Government Area of Enugu State.
It was gathered that the incident happened at Ogrute Roundabout on Monday night, April 15, 2024.
A video circulating on social media showed a security vehicle belonging to the Neighborhood Watch engulfed in flames, reportedly set ablaze by enraged youths following Ofor’s brutal killing.
According to an eyewitness, the security operatives had attempted to arrest someone at Ofor’s restaurant but faced resistance.
This led to a confrontation between the restaurant owner and the security personnel, resulting in Ofor being shot in the back by one of them.
“Subsequently, the security personnel fled the scene, abandoning their vehicle, which was later set on fire by angry locals'', he said.
He said Ofor was rushed to St. Mary’s Hospital Ogrute, where he was pronounced dead in the early hours on Tuesday, April 16.
Spokesperson of the State Police Command, Daniel Ndukwe, confirmed the incident, adding that an investigation into the murder of Ofor was underway.
