The resident said the military personnel stormed the Sangana community in a show of force as if there was a war.
Residents of Sangana community in the Brass Local Government Area of Bayelsa State have expressed concern, stating that the community is in a state of panic following the presence of Nigerian military personnel conducting a show of force.
A resident of the community told SaharaReporters on Thursday that the military personnel stormed the community with a drone on Wednesday evening in search of those involved in the killing of the 16 military officers in Okuama community in Delta State.
The resident said the military personnel stormed the Sangana community in a show of force as if there was a war. He said the military personnel did not meet with community leaders to discuss their reason for being there, thereby creating panic and apprehension in the community.
Sangana community shares a boundary with Egbematoru community in Southern Ijaw, where the military allegedly invaded and killed some residents at a jetty.
The source said, “The military is now showing force in Sangana over the killing at Okuama. Why is the military intimidating people like this?
“The military is looking for who to kill and tag names. My community which is battling with the Atlantic Ocean surge is now put in panic mode. My community is panicking right now.
“The military came to Sangana yesterday (Wednesday). They didn’t even let the community know that they were coming but when they came around 5 pm, they performed as if there was a war.
“They followed a drone they brought. They brought a drone which they used to trace the people who were involved in the killing of the 16 military personnel in Okuama community in Delta State.
“They did not see anyone like that and that has become a threat to us now. People are beginning to have high blood pressure. There is a problem on the ground now. Sangana as a whole does not have any issue with anybody but we are so surprised how military men just came to attack the community.
“They did not shoot anybody but after they left yesterday, this morning, they came back for nothing. The intimidation is becoming too much. We don’t even know where they came from. They have left now but who knows whether they will come back or not, because of the way they entered.
“They did not show that they just came to discuss with anybody in the community, and there is leadership in the community.
“They did not meet with any leader to say they are looking for any particular person. If they are looking for anybody that was involved in the issue that we will be able to provide to them, tell us, but nobody came for that but they just came to the community anyhow.”
