Suspected kidnappers, believed to be armed gunmen, carried out an assault on Kurmi village in Ningi Local Government Area (LGA) of Bauchi State, resulting in the abduction of five villagers.
The incident was said to have occurred late Sunday night as the armed men reportedly stormed the village, shooting sporadically to scare away residents in the wake of the abduction.
Daily Post reports that several cases of kidnapping have been recorded in parts of Bauchi State in recent times.
Confirming the recent attack, Caretaker Chairman of Ningi LGA, Ibrahim Zubairu Mato, disclosed to DAILY POST in a phone interview, on Thursday, that the armed kidnappers initially struck a neighbouring village, before attacking Kurmi.
He described the attack as a well-coordinated one, saying the attackers numbering six caught the villagers off guard.
He mentioned that among those injured were a nursing mother and former Councillor, Abdulrahaman Jibrin Kurmi, who reportedly sustained gunshot injuries, adding that the duo narrowly escaped abduction.
He added that the fate of the remaining five victims, including the former councillor’s son remains uncertain.
Zubairu stated further that he has ordered the transfer of the wounded victims to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Birnin Kudu in Jigawa State for comprehensive medical care, with the Council covering all expenses.
Efforts to reach the Bauchi State Police Command for comment on the abduction proved abortive as of the time of writing this report.
The spokesman of the Command, Ahmed Wakili, did not respond to calls and messages put across to him.
