The Amotekun Corps of the Western Security Network Agency in Osun State has verified an assault on its personnel in Kajola village by suspected herdsmen.

Spokesperson of the security outfit, Yusuf Idowu, in a chat with Daily Post on Thursday, said the operatives were attacked in the community which is located along the Osogbo/Ilesa Road.

He revealed that the incident occurred after some farmers had lodged complaints against herdsmen grazing cows on their farms in the area.

“We got complaints on Saturday from farmers in Kajola, a village along Osogbo/Ilesa road that herders were destroying their farms and we immediately deployed operatives to the area.

“Upon sighting approaching Amotekun men, the herdsmen who were armed, fired shots at them. But our men kept advancing towards them. When they saw that bullets could not stop those coming to arrest them, they signalled their cows to attack Amotekun men.

“In the ensuing melee, three of our men were injured. They are still on admission in the hospital as we speak. The herders fled into the bush and left their cows. Normalcy has returned to the area.”

Yusuf confirmed that the security outfit took the decision because in January 2024, farmers in Osun State sought relief from rampaging herders.
