An Internationally acclaimed Borno documentary photographer, Fati Abubakar, has stated that colorism is rampant in the country.

She stated this after a man told her that she was ''pretty for a dark skin girl.'

According to her, this is the reason why most ladies bleach their skin because statements like this make them feel like only light skin is worthy of praise and love.

“A short unattractive man with a pot belly is calling “pretty for a dark skin girl”. Unbelievable. And men wonder why girls bleach. It’s because you tell them things like this and only seem to find light skin worthy of praise and love. Colorism is too rampant in Nigeria,”  she wrote in a post on Thursday, February 15.
