Spokesperson for the state’s Police Command, Ejire-Adeyemi Toun, who confirmed the incident in a statement on Sunday, January 28, said the female student had to find her way back to the metropolis when she regained consciousness.
Moyosore Bright, the 100-level Zoology student of the University of Ilorin, who was whisked away by kidnappers within the campus has escaped from the abductor's den.
It was gathered that Moyosore boarded a mini bus (Korope) with other students at the school park around 2pm on Friday, January 26, 2024, then later found herself in a bush on the outskirts of the town, with some of her belongings carted by the perpetrator.
Spokesperson for the state’s Police Command, Ejire-Adeyemi Toun, who confirmed the incident in a statement on Sunday, January 28, said the female student had to find her way back to the metropolis when she regained consciousness.
The PPRO said the incident was reported to the police on Saturday, that the victim had been kidnapped on the school premises, adding that an investigation commenced immediately by the command team at Tanke.
“On 27th January, 2024 at about 2200hrs. The DPO Tanke received information that a 100-level student of the University of Ilorin was abducted within the school premises,” the statement read.
"Upon receipt of the information, the DPO and team responded promptly. Preliminary Investigation revealed that on 26th January 2024 at about 1400hrs. A female student named Moyosore Bright of the Zoology Department, University of Ilorin boarded a mini bus (Korope) at the school terminus on the main campus alongside other students with the intent of heading to her hostel at Tanke.
“However, she suddenly regained consciousness in the bush at about 1900hrs of the same day, several kilometers away from the Ilorin metropolis. There was no mark of violence on her, and her mobile handset was intact, but the following items were stolen from her: a gold chain, ATM Cards, and 3000 naira. Investigation is ongoing to track down the culprits who perpetrated this act.”
The spokesperson noted that the Commissioner of Police, Victor Olaiya, has assured that the command will not relent in ensuring the safety of citizens in the state.
"The Commissioner of Police, CP Victor Olaiya (psc+), reassures the public that the command will remain steadfast towards fighting all forms of crimes and criminalities while providing a secure environment for the good people of Kwara.
