A Nigerian police officer has been captured on camera soliciting money from a car driver.
The police officer captured in the viral video had insisted that the motorist would not leave unless he paid him the demanded bribe.
“Do sharp sharp and go now, if not, I will do my job,” the erring policeman was heard in the video.
The officer then proceeded to call his Access Bank account details to the motorist for him to transfer the money before he would allow him to drive his car from the spot.
In his reaction, Muyiwa Adejobi, the spokesperson for the Nigerian Police Force described the incident in the video as shameful and against their professional ethics.
“This is not allowed, so shameful. It's condemned. We need more info about this. We will fish him out,” He wrote.
SaharaReporters had earlier reported also how some operatives of the Nigeria Police Force were accused of kidnapping a businessman in Abuja, the country’s capital city and extorted the sum of N29,900,000 from him.
It was alleged that the man was taken away from his site without any proper complaint against him and he was not asked to write a formal statement by the Police Officers.
“We have taken over this case at the FHQ. The victims and Harrison came to my office on Friday, and we have commenced the investigation into the case. Justice must be served,” Adejobi wrote on X, while reacting to the claims.
