Following the activities of the blood-thirsty bandits in Bwari and Kuje Area Councils, there were reports that over 200 residents were kidnapped within two weeks.

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has responded to circulating reports suggesting that more than 200 residents were abducted by gunmen between December 23rd, 2023, and January 4th, 2024.

Following the activities of the blood-thirsty bandits in Bwari and Kuje Area Councils, there were reports that over 200 residents were kidnapped within two weeks.

But the FCT command, in a statement issued on Wednesday by its spokesperson, Josephine Adeh admitted that “there are pockets of abduction of persons in the communities mentioned”.

The command, however, said the figures were being escalated to create fear and apprehension in the nation’s capital.

The PPRO said the “commissioner of Police, FCT in a continued effort to enhance the security of the residents and prevention of pockets of abduction, on January 3rd, visited communities in Bwari”.

“During these visits, he engaged with community leaders, assessed security situation/ arrangements, and took proactive measures, by deploying additional police personnel and armoured police vehicles, APC, with effort in place to extend same to other communities in the FCT.

“However, revealing detailed security strategies emplaced in the above-mentioned communities publicly poses a risk to their effectiveness.

“The Commissioner of Police, FCT, CP Haruna G. Garba psc urged citizens to exercise restraint in sharing potentially misleading or mischievous posts, as he reiterates commitment to rid FCT of all forms of criminality”,
the statement added.
