Following the appeal court judgement reversing the sack of the Governor, the PDP and Ombugadu approached the Supreme Court to challenge verdict.

Tuesday, January 16 2024, has been fixed by the Supreme Court for a hearing in the Nasarawa State gubernatorial election dispute between the incumbent Governor, Abdullahi Sule of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and David Ombugadu of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

The notice of the hearing was made available by the Supreme Court on Tuesday.

DAILY POST reports that the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal (GEPT) sitting in Lafia had, on 2nd October 2023, sacked Governor Sule and declared PDP’s Ombugadu as the winner of the gubernatorial election in the state.

However, the Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja on Thursday, 23 November, reversed Sule’s.

The court held that the Tribunal acted in grave error in using witness statements on oath, not front-loaded as required by law, to arrive at what it termed an ‘unjust conclusion’ of nullifying the election of the governor.

Following the appeal court judgement reversing the sack of the Governor, the PDP and Ombugadu approached the Supreme Court to challenge verdict.
