He affirmed that the National Petroleum Corporation Limited, NNPCL, kept its promise of December deadline for the refinery to commence operation.

Shehu Sani, a former Kaduna Central Senator, has expressed hope that the Kaduna refinery would commence operation soon.

Sani made the remark while reacting to reports that the Port Harcourt refinery has commenced operation.

He affirmed that the National Petroleum Corporation Limited, NNPCL, kept its promise of December deadline for the refinery to commence operation.

Posting on X, Sani wrote: “The commencement of operations of the Port Harcourt Refinery is commendable.

“The NNPCL has kept to its promise of meeting up the December deadline. Kudos to the GCEO, the management and the FG.

“We hope the Kaduna refinery that has been inactive for over a decade will come back to operation soon.”

The Port Harcourt Refining Company, PHRC, Limited, with a combined capacity of 210,000 barrels per stream day, has commenced operation.

According to a video sighted by DAILY POST, the refinery’s flare indicated the commencement of oil refining.

The development comes months after the Minister of State for Petroleum (Oil), Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, said in August that the Port Harcourt refinery will commence operation in December 2023.

According to the Minister, the objective is to ensure the country stops importing fuel.
