A Nigerian woman has recounted the incident in which a suspected fraudster, pretending to be a POS operator, swapped her ATM card and proceeded to withdraw all the funds from her account.
In a video she made, the lady who resides in Benin city, Edo state, said she had gone to an ATM to withdraw some money but discovered the machine wasn't dispensing cash.
She said a young man who she saw at the ATM point told her he was a POS operator and asked of she wanted to withdraw cash. The lady said she happily handed over her card to the man so she could withdraw the money she was to withdraw at the ATM.
She said the man then inserted her card into his POS machine and immediately said he had no network and couldn't withdraw the money.
She said the young man returned ‘her card’ and she left. But after she got into her car, her spirit became unsettled so she immediately visited an ATM point nearby to change her pin. However, the machine kept telling her that her pin was wrong. She then looked at the card and realized that the fraudster had swapped her card with a fake one.
Soon after, she received a debit alert as the fraudster had already found his way to withdraw all her money.
