According to the PPRO, Bukar who hails from the Gidan Dambe area where the murder took place, confessed to the killing after he was arrested.
A 23-year-old man, Abatcha Bukar, who confessed to being behind the murder of a 21-year-old housewife, Fatima Bukar alongside his accomplices have been arrested by the Borno Police Command.
Recall that the deceased, daughter of a Borno House of Assembly member, was strangled to death around Gidan Dembe area of Maiduguri last Tuesday.
Her husband, Adamu Alhaji Ibrahim, was subsequently arrested in connection with the murder.
Security Analyst and counter insurgency expert, Zagazola Makama, said the prime suspect was an ex-boyfriend of the deceased woman.
Spokesperson of the command, ASP Sani Kamilu Shatambaya, who confirmed the development in a press release on Tuesday, October 24, said the prime suspect, Abatcha Bukar, was arrested alongside five accomplices.
The release was titled: An update on the case of culpable homicide leading to the death of one Fatima Bukar, F,21 yrs, of Gidan Dambe area and arrest of a suspected killers and his abettors".
According to the PPRO, Bukar who hails from the Gidan Dambe area where the murder took place, confessed to the killing after he was arrested.
He said the five other suspects, Ibrahim Mustapha, 28, Usman Yusuf, 25, Muhammed Yunus, 29, Nuhu Mohammed, 27, and Ismaila Mohammed Barka,28, all hailing from the Gwange General Area, Maiduguri, were arrested for receiving stolen property and abetment.
“It could be recalled that on the 17th October, 2023 at about 1800hrs the Command received a report of a case of culpable homicide from Gwange Division involving the death of a house wife one Fatima Alh Bukar 'F' of Gidan Dambe Area, Maiduguri. Equally, in an effort to ensure openness and transparency in investigation, the command employed intelligence-led policing to get to the root of the incident,” the PPRO stated.
"In furtherance of the investigation, it was discovered that the deceased cellphone was missing at the scene of the incident, therefore investigation was narrowed on tracking the IMEI NUMBER. the police efforts yielded positive result leading to the arrest of the following suspects; Ibrahim Mustapha, Usman Yusuf, Muhammed Yunus, Nuhu Mohammed and Ismaila Mohammed Barka all male of Gwange General Area Maiduguri Metropolis, who were involved in the missing of the deceased infinix Hot30i handset
“The principal suspect, one Abatcha Bukar m 23years of Gidan Dambe area was arrested and he confessed to the killing of the deceased,"
"Exhibits recovered included one Infinix Hot 30i and a photograph of bruises on the finger of Abatcha Bukar.''
