Some unidentified gunmen have abducted Williams Ortim Iorhemba, who is the nephew of Mzaga Iorhemba, the Acting Chairman of Benue State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB). The incident took place in Tse Digenyi within the Mbaterem community of Ukum Local Government Area (LGA) in the state.

The latest incident of kidnapping in the area happened barely three days after the release of the state’s information commissioner who spent 10 days in his captors’ den.

Family sources however said that William was abducted from his house at Tse Digenyi village around 8pm on Sunday.

His uncle, the SUBEB chairman, Mzaga Iorhemba, who confirmed the incident to our correspondent on telephone, said the victim was abducted in the presence of his wife, mother and children.

“He had earlier gone to watch a football match. On return, the gunmen who might have trailed him from the football venue accosted him and ordered him to fuel his motorcycle with which they took him away.

“We have not heard from them since that Sunday. But I have reported the matter to the governor’s Special Assistant on Security,” Iorhemba said.

Contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Catherine Anene, said she was yet to get the report.
