Joe Ajero, the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress NLC, has stated that the union owes no one an apology for forming a political party of its own.

According to him, the party just like other political parties have been beneficial to Nigerians.

Speaking on Channels TV, Ajaero said;

‘’We do not have an apology for forming the Labour party. Historically, the Labour party is organized and formed by the trade unions all over the world and I have said it elsewhere that the early 1918 down the line to 1945, Michael Imodu came up with the Labour party, 1964, Semi Imodu and a few others. 1987, Pascal Agbafia. 2003 Adams Oshiomole who late became chairman of APC.

 Within the time Adams was contesting for governorship, Labour party aligned with those that formed APC, to sponsor Adams for him to enjoy a joint ticket. Then it wasn't a crime if Labour party decides to form an alliance with other political parties. Thereafter we changed to have our own party. Today, we are not aligned to any political party and we do not have apologies for forming a party that will be benefitial to ordinary Nigerians. Just like that the other parties are meant for other Nigerians to be used, all the members of the Labour party are not workers or trade unionists. If you check the people in the National Assembly today, they are not members of any Labour union. The same thing with the Presidential candidate of the Labour party. He is not in anyway related with any Labour union. So, any Nigerian that wants to belong to the Labour party is free to belong to the Labour party''
