Reacting to the incident via Instagram on Friday, Tacha hailed the police for dispersing the crowd after the procession.

Reality star, Tacha Akide has praised the Nigerian police after they teargassed youths who came out to honour Mohbad during a candlelight procession arranged for him at Lekki Tollgate.

Recall that Mohbad, the fast-rising singer, died on September 12 and was buried the next day.

On Thursday, a candlelight procession was held at Muri Okunola Park in honour of the late singer.

Shortly after the procession, some police officers fired tear gas canisters at the crowd that gathered at the Lekki tollgate.

Benjamin Hundeyin, Lagos police spokesperson, said the crowd was dispersed because the group had brought vehicular movement on the route to “a total standstill, leading to traffic build-up”.

Reacting to the incident via Instagram on Friday, Tacha hailed the police for dispersing the crowd after the procession.

She wrote: "We can all agree that every country has its issues. Every police have their issues. And Nigeria is not exempted.

“But what I will not agree with you people is trying to gaslight me and every other person on what happened yesterday, on the event of yesterday, trying to change the narrative. Now let me ask you guys, what was the whole reason people came out yesterday?

“Everybody came out for Mohbad’s candle night procession. What happened at the park at VI? Now tell me how did people leave the park to Lekki Toll Gate. We can all agree that the organisers said you can all go home.

“But a lot of people did not come out yesterday for protest. But if you want to protest, pick a date and get the date approved by the government, and you can go out to protest. Stop changing the narrative.

“And you see all of these so-called activists on Twitter, let me bring it to you guys, some of them do not care about you people, they care about themselves.

“Kudos to the Nigerian police. Una try well. Because I have seen videos of police begging you people to dispatch yourselves but no.

“We did not come out to continue #Endsars”.
