Ekiti state lawmaker, Afolabi Akanni who was arrested and spent 18 days in the DSS custody in Abuja, has returned home amid cheers from supporters and the governor in the state.

Afolabi Akanni received a heroic welcome by members of the House of Assembly, PDP members and supporters.

Lawmaker and member of the Ekiti state House of Assembly, Afolabi Akanni, who was arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS), and spent 18 days in their custody, arrived Ado-Ekiti on Thursday, March 24th.

Governor Ayodele Fayose was accompanied by other state officials to receive the lawmaker who arrived aboard a helicopter at about 3:38pm and landed at Christ’s School playing ground in Ado Ekiti.

It was gathered that a massive crowd comprising members of the state House of Assembly was led by its speaker, Kola Oluwawole.

Addressing the crowd, Akanni promised that his arrest and detention would further reinforce his loyalty to the governor.

"What manner of democracy are we practicing? How can DSS invaded a House of Assembly and arrest a lawmaker with intention to impeach a governor? They even came without a warrant of arrest. Is this democracy?

"Is it an offence to be loyal or honest to a governor? Fayose is our leader and I can’t betray him. Ekiti people must stand behind him. Mr Governor, I am assuring you that I will always stand by you," he said.
