A Nigerian man has taken to social media to question the importance of wedding ceremonies.

A Nigerian pilot, Arinze Odira has expressed shock that Nigerians are still in mental slavery decades after it was abolished.

This is as he questioned the importance of wedding ceremonies and likened them to ‘slavery’.

He took to Twitter and wrote:

“Introduction 2. Civil wedding 3. Traditional wedding 4. Church/white wedding All these (and more) just to get married in Nigeria. Why? 1. Slavery is still alive we’re just concealing it. 2. Emancipate yourself from mental slavery. 3. The marriage is more important than all these wedding ceremonies," he wrote on Twitter on Monday, September 4."
