Embattled Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, has returned to the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT), Abuja where he is standing trial for alleged false declaration of assets.

He arrived the CCT at 9:53am on Thursday morning amidst cheers from his fellow senate colleagues who had arrived earlier.

Saraki’s trial began in September 2015 on a 13-count charge brought by the Code of Conduct Bureau and at the last sitting on March 18, Saraki’s lawyer, Kanu Agabi, asked the court to strike out the case, saying the charge was invalid.

According to SaharaReporters, Saraki, yesterday, begged Justice Abdul Kafarati of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja to go ahead and deliver judgement on the suit challenging his trial before the Code of Conduct Tribunal.

This came on a day the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, distanced itself from the decision of Justice Kafarati to decline ruling in the fundamental human rights enforcement case brought before him by Senate President.

Justice Kafarati had on Tuesday, disqualified himself from the matter which was originally scheduled for judgement, owing to bribery allegation levelled against him by two online media outlets.

However, Saraki, yesterday, said he was dissatisfied that the judge was blackmailed by his enemies to hands off the suit that was ripe for judgement.

A former Federal Attorney General, Kanu Agabi, has said at the CCT this morning that Saraki had been denied fair hearing by not being allowed to provide explanations first, adding that at Thursday’s hearing, Saraki was represented by 80 lawyers.

We'll be bringing you more details in today's CCT trial of the senate president.
