Three Killed As Car Plunges Into River Along Sagamu-Benin Expressway

Public education officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ogun, Florence Okpe, who confirmed the incident identified the deceased as three male adults while one other person sustained injuries.

A Toyota Sienna car plunged into Omo river along the Sagamu-Benin expressway on Saturday, August 2, 2023, leaving three victims dead.

Public education officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ogun, Florence Okpe, who confirmed the incident identified the deceased as three male adults while one other person sustained injuries.

"The accident occurred around 11:55 a.m, and the suspected cause of the crash was excessive speed and loss of control which made the vehicle to plunge into the river,” she said.

"The vehicle marked APP 830 HX was coming from Benin and heading to Lagos.”

The FRSC spokesperson said the injured victim was taken to Hope Clinic J4 in Ijebu-East LGA of the state.

"Bodies of those dead were deposited at the State General Hospital morgue in Ijebu-Ode,” she said.

Okpe quoted Anthony Uga, the state sector commander of FRSC, as saying speed limit violation by motorists, especially commercial vehicle drivers, is the main cause of road accidents.

"In this case, however, the FRSC sector commander appreciated the efforts of local divers for the rescue operation
,” she said.

"We also sympathise with the families of the victims, just as we advise them to contact the FRSC Ogbere outpost for more information about the crash
