Ibadan Polytechnic Graduate Languishes In Pain After Accident Allegedly Involving Nigerian Customs Vehicle In Ogun

A graduate of The Polytechnic, Ibadan in Oyo State, Orisade Sunday Femi, and two other persons have been allegedly hit by a vehicle belonging to the Nigerian Customs Service, along Ilaro Oja-Odan expressway in Ogun State.

It was learnt that Femi who was on his way home, immediately went into a coma, but later responded to treatment in the hospital.

Comrade Hunge Taiwo Abiodun, President of Gani Fawehinmi Human Rights Foundation, disclosed this in a letter signed on Friday, addressed to the Comptroller General of the NCS; Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun; Senator Salis Shuib and Senator Olamilekan Adeola, popularly called Yayi.

Abiodun, who described the incident as a “serious case of unprofessional conduct by a Nigerian customs officer,” noted that the victim was in severe pain and crying on the hospital bed.

The letter reads in part, "I want to draw your attention to a serious case of unprofessional conduct by a Nigerian customs officer along Ilaro Oja-Odan expressway.

"I received a distressed call from my twin sister around 5 p.m. on Friday, the 31st day of August 2023. According to her, she got a report that her son Orisade Sunday Femi, a graduate of Ibadan Poly (The Polytechnic, Ibadan) and two others were reportedly hit by a vehicle of Nigerian Customs Service on their way home.

"Getting to the hospital, she met him in a coma under serious medical attention. He responded later to treatment after the tireless efforts of the medical expert.

"He's in severe pain now crying in a hospital bed. Must innocent suffer this much?”

"I'm calling on the authority of Nigerian Customs Service, Office of Executive Governor and office of Senators representing Yewa and Ogun Central to wade into the matter," the statement added.

The National Public Relations Officer of the NCS, Abdullahi Maiwada, promised to find out about the incident from the command involved and get back. He had yet to do so at the time of filing this report.
