He Denigrated And Relegated His Grandfather - Aisha Yesufu Reacts To Burna Boy’s Statement On Afrobeats

Popular Nigerian activist, Aisha Yesufu has condemned the statement made by Grammy-winner, Burna Boy about Afrobeats.

Recall that during a recent interview, Burna Boy stated that Afrobeats lacked substance.

According to the singer, 90 percent of Afrobeats songs are devoid of real-life experiences and only portray an amazing time which life isn’t all about.

According to him, “That’s why you hear most Nigerian music, African Music, or Afrobeats, as you people call it, is mostly about nothing, absolutely nothing. There is no substance to it, like nobody is talking about anything, it’s just a great time. But at the end of the day, life isn’t an amazing time.”

His statement has since sparked a range of reactions on social media with some agreeing with him, and others criticizing him for being arrogant.

Reacting to Burna Boy’s statement, Yesufu wondered why Nigerians were shocked.

She accused him of denigrating his grandfather and leaving his mother in shock over his utterance.

Sharing an old video of the Afrobeat star, she recounted how he walked out of an interview because he was bored.

According to her, “Am I the only one that watched Burna Boy’s interview where he literally denigrated and relegated his grandfather? His mother was shell shocked sef.

“Then who the heck are you folks that he will not shred everyone of you?

“All of us like this he will pieces us!

“I am surprised at you people’s surprise.”
