Kanayo Uzuegbu, the newly posted Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, has begun passing an important message to residents.
The commissioner on Tuesday commenced a confidence-building patrol and interface with traders and transporters within the state.
This, SaharaReporters gathered, followed the persistence of Monday's sit-at-home protest which the residents continued to observe despite all government efforts to end it.
SaharaReporters reported on July 5, 2023, that Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu banned sit-at-home in the state and threatened that any business, transport, and markets that did not open for businesses on Mondays would be shut down.
However, despite the ban and threats, and even the killing of two Ogbete traders in efforts to enforce the ban, residents continued to observe the sit-at-home protest against the continued detention of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu by the federal government of Nigeria despite several court judgments that freed him.
Although the Indigenous People of Biafra which Kanu is the leader called for the sit-at-home protest, it later cancelled it but a Finland-based acclaimed disciple, Simon Ekpa continued to call for the sit-at-home.
However, the police commissioner, Uzuegbu who assumed duty last week, on Monday embarked on a confidence-building patrol during which he interfaced with stakeholders.
He interfaced with traders, transporters, and others within Eke-Obinagu, Emene, Afia Nine, Abakpa, Mayor, Garriki markets, and transport parks among others during his patrol.
The commissioner used the opportunity of the patrol to encourage citizens, in line with the pronouncement of Governor Peter Mbah on the need to end sit-at-home in the state.
The commissioner called on the good people of Enugu State to go about their lawful businesses without any form of fear or intimidation on Mondays.
“This patrol is to entrench a policing pattern/initiative that is Grassroots-driven, Proactive, People-oriented, and Problem-solving (G-3Ps).
“The G-3Ps initiative will ensure the security and safety of the people; as it remained topmost on my policing agenda for the state,” he said.
Uzuegbu also noted that the police, working with other security forces and law-abiding citizens, would remain undaunted in stabilising security and order in the state.
The CP was joined in the patrol by DCP Fidelis Ogarabe, the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department, and ACP Onyeamu Akaeme, the Assistant Commissioner of Police in the Department of Operations.
Another senior officer in his entourage was the Assistant Commissioner of Police, ACP Princewill Ijeoma, the Commanding Officer of 3 Police Mobile Force (PMF) Squadron, Enugu.
