Obi told hundreds of party supporters that some of the things they are hearing everywhere were rumours.

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 elections has addressed reports that his party is scheming a merger with other former presidential candidates, Atiku Abubakar and Rabiu Kwankwaso to wrest power from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Obi while speaking at a mega rally in Edo State ahead of the local government elections in the state, told hundreds of party supporters that some of the things they are hearing everywhere were rumours. He assured his party members of his commitment to the party.

“Labour Party will continue to grow. We will continue to go stronger (and) better. Half of the things you are hearing everywhere are rumours, don’t listen to them. We are committed to building a better and a new Nigeria where we will move Nigeria from consumption to production,” Obi said to loud cheers from the crowd.

An earlier report by Thisday claimed that Atiku, Obi and Kwankwaso had met to discuss the possibility of a merger with the sole aim of wrestling power from President Tinubu and the APC.

The report claimed that the three leaders had decided to wait and watch the outcome of the election petitions in court, which would determine their next move.
