Wabba disclosed this while joining other members of the organised labour on a peaceful protest in Abuja.

Ayuba Wabba, a former President of the Nigerian Labour Congress, has criticized the removal of fuel subsidy.

Wabba, on Wednesday, said removing the fuel subsidy while the country largely depends on importation of the product, would make the pains currently faced by Nigerians “perpetual”

Wabba disclosed this while joining other members of the organised labour on a peaceful protest in Abuja.

According to him, only functional refineries are the solution to the current fuel hike and not palliatives rolled out by the government.

He said: ”It (fuel subsidy) is a fire brigade approach. It is a quick bill that will only make the pain now perpetual

“What will address this issue is actually the issue of production but the elite, not more than 10 per cent of them, don’t want production, they want importation because they benefit from importation

“This is the real issue. Therefore, we must continually insist that our refineries should work… Because this will address the so-called issue of subsidy, the issue of high price ”

The organised labour is currently holding a nationwide protest against the recent removal of fuel subsidy by President Bola Tinubu.
