Omokri said the current sit-at-home is a war the South East is having against itself

A former presidential aide, Reno Omokri has opened up on what he thinks is the reason why sit-at-home orders in the South East is not affecting Nigeria's economy.

He took to Twitter on Thursday to suggest that the reason could be because no state in the region is in the top ten states of registered tax-paying businesses in the country.

Omokri said the current sit-at-home is a war the South East is having against itself, and the most significant economic effect it has on the rest of Nigeria is positive.

The social critic asserted that foreign and local investors are allegedly divesting from the Southeast and relocating to other stable geopolitical zones.

He wrote: “The attached image is the major reason why the sit-at-home currently going on in the Southeast geopolitical zone is not impacting the national economy and is only destroying their regional economy.

“Because of the top ten states with registered tax paying businesses in Nigeria, not a single one is in the Southeast. And of the top ten states that generate the highest internally generated revenue in the nation, none are from the Southeast.

“The current sit-at-home is a war the Southeast is having against itself, and the most significant economic effect it has on the rest of Nigeria is positive, in that foreign and local investors are divesting from the Southeast and relocating to other stable geopolitical zones.

“Please, this is not Igbo hatred. It is just the bitter truth based on facts that don’t lie!”
