Kalu was nominated for the position by Babajimi Benson from Lagos State and seconded by Khadijat Bukar Abba Ibrahim from Yobe State.

 

Benjamin Kalu, the immediate past spokesman of the House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, has been elected unopposed as the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives.

Kalu was nominated for the position by Babajimi Benson from Lagos State and seconded by Khadijat Bukar Abba Ibrahim from Yobe State.

Kalu was the APC-endorsed candidate for the position.

Here are five things to know about Kalu:

1. Benjamin Kalu became Chairman of Bende Local Government area of Abia state at 29.

2. He was Executive Adviser to the Abia state governor on Millennium Development Goals (MDG) and international relations.

3. He was Chairman of the House Committee on Media and Public Affairs.

4. He is the only returning member of the House from Abia State.

5. He has about 48 bills to his name as a first-time member.
