According to Customs, smugglers have decided to turn Nigeria into a dumping ground by bringing in used products.
The Nigeria Customs Service has disclosed plans to ban the sales of second-hand clothing popularly called 'Okrika', in the country.
Speaking during a recent interview, a spokesman for the Customs Service noted that the sales of Okrika clothes was injurious to the nation.
According to him, smugglers have decided to turn Nigeria into a dumping ground by bringing in used products.
In his words:
“Okrika clothes is injurious to the health of the nation. That is why government deem it fit that it should be banned.
“One should be curious. Nobody knows how and who used these clothings. And most importantly smugglers desirous to turn Nigeria into a dumping ground. We should not accept it.
“We are a country well blessed with human and natural resources. Why will someone go and bring used products?”
