John applauded his colleagues for deeming it fit to assign him the number one position in the House and also vowed to carry all the members along irrespective of political party affiliations.
Bonzena Kizito John has been re-elected as the speaker of the Taraba State House of Assembly.
John, who came on board at the eleventh hour of the last legislative Assembly following the resignation of the former speaker, Joseph Albasu Kunini, was re-elected by his colleagues on Thursday during the inauguration of the 10th state Assembly.
Speaking shortly after his confirmation, he said the already existing cordial relationship between the Executive and the Legislative arms of the government must continue.
John applauded his colleagues for deeming it fit to assign him the number one position in the House and also vowed to carry all the members along irrespective of political party affiliations.
He promised to operate an open-door policy, emphasising that to whom much is given, much is expected.
He said “I promise not to disappoint you. I understand that leadership in the legislature is leadership among equals. Each and every one of you seated here is eminently qualified to preside over this Honourable house.”
The speaker, who was of the view that the incumbent governor of the state, has the much-needed capacity to attract development to the state, begged his colleagues to throw their weights behind him to succeed.
“I therefore appeal to you for your cooperation, support and prayers for the success of this Assembly and by extension our state governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas’s Administration in Taraba.”
He said with all hands on deck, all problems bedevilling the House, including poor infrastructure, lack of office accommodation, lack of training for both legislators and staff unpaid backlog of allowances for staff, will be a thing of the past.
