Ibadan-Based Socialist, Laoye Sanda Is Dead

Sanda was among the academics sacked by the then Olusegun Obasanjo military government.

 

Comrade Laoye Sanda, an Ibadan-based human rights activist, has died.

Sanda was among the academics sacked by the then Olusegun Obasanjo military government.

They were sacked owing to their support for the students’ uprising tagged “Ali Must go” in 1978.

The socialist died on Thursday, DAILY POST reports.

The Socialist Party of Nigeria (SPN) confirmed his demise on Sunday in a statement signed by the duo of Abiodun Bamigboye (Acting National Chairperson) and Bosah Chinedu (National Secretary).

They described the deceased as a longstanding revolutionary.

“For instance, he was among the academics sacked by Olusegun Obasanjo military government because of their support for the students’ uprising tagged ‘Ali Must go’ in 1978.

“Until his death, he was a close collaborator of the SPN. He supported the SPN in its many struggles against various anti-poor capitalist policies and for the socialist transformation of the Nigeria,” the party said.
