The Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola has reacted to an enquiry over N6 trillion unpaid ground rent.
In his response, Fashola asked the Senate ad hoc committee to direct its enquiry on the to Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF.
Fashola stated this on Wednesday when the committee visited him in Abuja.
The committee, chaired by Senator Adamu Aliero, was mandated to probe and recover the over N6 trillion accrued from the non-payment of ground rent from the property built and allocated to various beneficiaries by the federal government.
During the committee visit, the Minister explained that the Presidential Implementation Committee, PIC, that issued receipts on the property was under the purview of the SGF, not him.
“As long as your letter seeks to ask us to account for the PIC, they don’t report to us. I will advise you to direct your enquiries about what the PIC does to the SGF. I cannot account for them since the organisation does not report to me,” he said.
Also, speaking with newsmen after the meeting, Aliero disclosed that about N18 billion had been recovered as efforts were being made to get the balance.
