The PDP members started the protest from the party’s state secretariat through Justice Buba Ardo Road in the heart of Jimeta to the DSS office in Old GRA where they presented their complaint letter.
Protesters stormed the office of the Department of State Services (DSS) in Yola to demand the immediate release of three persons in detention.
The three being held, namely Yusuf Mohammed, Zira John and Solomon Abafras, were arrested last week on the accusation of manhandling an operative of the DSS.
The three who are members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and supporters of Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, the party’s candidate in the supplementary governorship election of April 15, were picked up after they allegedly ‘harassed’ the DSS operative on April 16, shortly after the erstwhile Resident Electoral Commissioner of INEC, Hudu Ari, illegally announced the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Sen Aishatu Ahmed Binani, as the winner of the election.
The PDP members started the protest from the party’s state secretariat through Justice Buba Ardo Road in the heart of Jimeta to the DSS office in Old GRA where they presented their complaint letter.
Leading the protesters, the State Chairman of PDP, Ahmed Tahir Shehu, said the affected members of his party have been in detention since last Wednesday.
The PDP chairman, a lawyer, said the detention of his party members was beyond the time the constitution stipulates.
“Every Nigerian has a fundamental human right not to be kept in police custody for 48 hours,” he asserted.
