Two All Progressives Congress chieftains have been caught sharing fake news about Peter Obi, Labour Party presidential candidate, TORI NEWS reports.
President Muhammadu Buhari's media aide, Bashir Ahmad and APC chieftain, Adamu Garba both claimed that the Federal Government, through the executive chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa intervened to see that Obi was released from detention in the UK.
Ahmad who shared the fake news first wrote:
"I heard Aunty @AbikeDabiri has done it for the Compatriot that needed her intervention in the UK. God bless you and the services you have been rendering for our countrymen and women, especially this recent one, ma’am!"
However, Garba who claims to be an IT guru went further by tweeting a fake photo purportedly showing Dabiri in a room with Obi and a UK immigration officer.
According to him, Dabiri's intervention got Obi released from UK detention.
He tweeted: "Here is how the government of APC helped to recover Peter Obi from his detention cell in the UK over allegations of traveling to the UK with fake documents. All thanks to Abike Dabiri.
His campaign fake, manifesto fake, his motives fake, even his travel documents are fake. WHY?"
Reacting to the viral photo of Dabiri, Obi and UK immigration officer, a spokesperson and head of Media, Public Relations and Protocol Unit of NiDCOM, Abdur-Rahman Balogun disowned it, describing it as a stunt.
He said the NiDCOM boss, Dabiri-Erewa, was not in the UK and not in a position to secure the release of any Nigerian suspected to be under UK interrogation
“Our attention has been called to the above social.media stunt which has gone viral. Aunty Abike Dabiri-Erewa is NOT in UK and NOT in a position to secure the release of any Nigerian suspected to be under UK interrogation. So, members of the public should disregard the information in its entirety,” the NiDCOM spokesman stated.
Just recently, another APC presidential spokersperson, Festus Keyamo shared a fake news stating that Obi had deleted a tweet informing the PDP that he is no longer a member of the party. It turned out that it was another fake news as the tweet was never deleted.
